5 hilarious guns in movies

Back in the ’80s and ’90s guns in Hindi films used to be as outrageous as the costumes. The fancy toys fired by the big boys of the movies, the work of hardworking ammunition experts and men who handle the props for our film industry used to be a really hilarious affair. Whether these man-killers were made out of plastic, thermocol or just some leftover cutlery is a debatable topic. Check out the 5 most atrocious gun designs found in Hindi films…

Ajay Devgn in Vijaypath

Shark tales

Ajay Devgn’s action director decided to give him a special gun during an action scene in Vijaypath. A modification in the original design added a shark fin on top of the gun’s spout. Whether it added to the weapon’s accuracy or not, it certainly made it look more like a Barbie gun at a fancy dress.

Lootera

Friendly competition

On the sets of Lootere, Naseeruddin Shah stapled in a fringe jacket and a radio transistor that could fire bullets. Sunny Deol took a leaf from Ajay Devgn’s page and got himself a snappy rifle. But it was Chunky Pandey who had the last laugh. His demure smile from behind the recoil of an automatic machine gun was priceless. And that was a Kodak moment!

Dharmendra gun

Advanced ammo

Dharmendra’s masked vigilante avatar in Khatron Ke Khiladi caused a lot of confusion in the Pentagon. While some argued that Teesri Adalat was actually an Indian version of Zorro, others were simply baffled at the technological advancements in the Indian ammo industry. After countless meetings that lasted for hours, the NASA scientists determined that the rifle Dharmendra held was indeed unidentifiable. The prop team once again succeeded in baffling the intelligence agencies of the west.

Dharmendra gun

Firm favourite

Rifling through one unmatchable movie after another we discovered the fact that the shark fin rifle is perhaps the most popular gun with Hindi film heroes. Filmy arms dealer, Bob Christo had this to say about the shark fin rifle: “It looks good, fires easy and adds great value to those times when one wants to kill bad guys from the ease of their chopper. All that while you’re dressed in a dapper suit.” Dharamji would endorse that any day. Just pick up a copy of Tahalka, Humlaa or Zalzala and see for yourself.

Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja Anupam Kher

Double whammy

Step in: Anupam Kher, the undisputed winner of “I carried the most ridiculous gun” award. Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja must have had a monumental budget to afford ammunition of such exotic designs. At that time, it was the latest invention in state-of-the-art guns. An automatic machine gun with hundreds of man-hours behind its design and thanks to its artistically crafted spout it doubled as a shehnai too. In case of enemy, pull trigger to kill. In case of shaadi, pull trigger to dance. What a bloody baraat!
